The ORGANIZATION
of
Williams Chapel Missionary Baptist Church

On the first Sunday in December 1955, at approximately 5:00 P.M., Williams Chapel was officially organized in a one room storefront on the corner of Ellery and Arndt streets in Detroit, Michigan.  Thirteen members of a Christian group known as the Helping Hand Club initiated this sacred inauguration at the home of the late Deacon and Sister Andrew and Gertrude Benson.  Ten others joined the Helping Hand Club and officially united as a church, receiving Reverend Welton Williams as pastor.  This service was officiated by Reverend P.M. Martin, pastor of Reverend Williams and the Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church.  Among other attendees were Pastor E.L. Rundless of New Liberty Baptist Church and members of Zion Hope Baptist Church.
